Job Description: Swing/Surge Systems Engineer
This position supports the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Transport Services Directorate (IE) and its Cyber NetOps Tools Division (IEA) on the Operational Support System (OSS) Legacy Systems Sustainment effort. OSS comprises tools and enclaves used by DISA Tier II/III to monitor, control, analyze, and manage DoDIN/DISN equipment; while OSS is a legacy environment being replaced by the cloud‑based Global Management System (GMS), it must be sustained to ensure continuity of operations during transition. Primary work is performed at Ft. Meade.
Mission of the role. Your charge is to keep OSS reliable, secure, and accredited across lab and production by sustaining: (1) the OSS Lab Network, (2) Network Services (AAA, DNS, NTP, Syslog, SAN/NAS/Brocade, RDP), (3) CDBA, (4) JSME, and (5) OSS Firewalls/technical refresh—using a lab‑first pipeline, disciplined change control (IP/DP with reversion), STIG/IAVA patching, and clear documentation.
Overview:
The Swing/Surge Systems Engineer is a cross‑trained utility player who backstops the lab network, network services, CDBA/JSME, and firewall tasks to protect QASP performance and ensure continuity of mission‑essential services during surges, outages, or exercises.
Support Scope:
Provide temporary coverage across Operational Support System (OSS) Legacy Systems Sustainment effort ; assist with ticket triage, lab testing, documentation, and emergency changes; contribute to essential‑services continuation for OSS Network Services, CDBA, JSME, and Firewalls.

Key Responsibilities:
- Meet/maintain ticket SLAs (ack ≤24 hrs; daily status); execute lab‑validated IP/DPs with reversion; update diagrams and activity reports.
- Support COOP activities and Government‑directed drills (DFARS 252.237‑7023/7024).
- 5+ years across at least two domains (network, identity/DNS/time/logging, Oracle/WebLogic, or firewalls).
- DoD 8140 IAT‑II; strong documentation discipline.
- Any mix of CCNA/CCNP, Security+, Linux+, PCNSE, Oracle OCP.
- On‑site coverage aligned to core hours; surge during outages/patch windows.
- Clearance: Top Secret/Secret
